Monsoon
Let the madness begin:
Amphibious webfooted seasonal deluge relentless onslaught incessant humidity steaming wilderness hazily visible through rain rinsed wind broken limbs. Outside a mudslide, rinsed ochre rock strata earth’s silicate bones exposed to the lightning thunderous boombox raps across mountaintop snarerattling raindrops sizzling hot on tin roofs grouching n grating on every nerve ending atmospherics stretch taut singing pianowire reflex of sinewy tension sprung loose, concussed heavens burst open blackeyed bruised sky, endlessly weeping…
Cricket song echoing thru dripping green canopy bird’s constant chuntering hunting winged antipasti Butterflies scoot over fermenting fruits during brief sunburst intervals beneath moss laden mango trees, imbibing they flutter by, giggling.
Stilt walking waders keenly eyed fishermen feast on fresh flesh exposed on mudslippery creek bed eagle eyed Coucals hunt frogs lizards snakes anything that swims fleeing levees that break. Wandering tribes of squabbling chickens snaffle protein rich cocktails from bug-ridden fruits. Frogs click boom splish splashing through nocturnal downpours swashbuckling centipedes patrol damp morning undergrowth multi limbed gate crashing monstrous nightmares alien party poopers with too many appendages out on the prowl
Houseflies, fruit flies, tiny wee midges that bite in the bed at night. Wood ants that bite Fire ants that bite teeny tiny orange ants that you guessed it climb right up inside your trousers where they bite bite n bite squadrons of termites worship sodium lighting bossed by the queens shedding wings haunting pale ghostly striders crawling crisscross the floor in their thousands producing stealthily more and then more munching our house, silent unseen
springs freshets rills into rivulets run into rivers and thence into swamps and morasses mud like molasses drowning we are, in watery wetlands hard gig to navigate, gliding, sliding round potholed puddles ‘til steaming heaving we huddle under cover mozzies whining and dining on bloated blood sausages here for the summer, card carrying donors all beautifully gift wrapped in croptops and shorts waiting for heaven’s inundation to cease sometime in October bathed in glorious sunshine merely three months away, when this will all seem but one more horrendous wet dream…
