I love what you did with language in this piece — The internal rhyme and The rhythm. Captures The attitudes within the poem. I am a sucker for puns, and this line in particular:
I was born in an old curiosity shop
down by the river
_razed_ by the city down to the ground
now there’s a wasteland
The use of the word "raised" is brilliant and my brain is holding so much with that one word. There are no words. Well, there are, but I can't come up with them right now. 🫤
There’s something deeply moving about the way memory becomes a place we keep returning to. “But the river never forgets” was the line that stayed with me. Thank you for sharing such an honest piece.
